A Champion is a person of remarkable abilities who has been accepted into the League of Legends, often to represent a member-state. Such individuals began to appear around the time of the founding of the League, perhaps as an after-effect of the Rune Wars.
Champions are assisted by Summoners on the Fields of Justice, and often turn to Summoners for their magical expertise in pursuing their personal agendas.

Some "Champions" are dangerous creatures magically bound to the Institute; the use of the term "Champion" is somewhat debatable here, as these creatures possess the powers of a Champion, but are not generally recognized as holding the same legal status for most purposes.
